On the other side

The worst of the storm is over.

We lost power right after my lost post at about 3 a.m.

No damage to our home and we’re waiting to hear from our tenants.

Our teenager has a friend who lost their roof and my sister had water pouring in from the fireplace and the roof leaked in several places.

It was a long night and I’m really tired. I’m glad we had AC as long as we did. The power tried to come on a couple of times and even stayed on for a few minutes.

I want a cup of coffee in the worst way!

Elgin was able to hook up the Internet router to a temporary power supply so that’s how I’m able to post.

The winds are still howling but nothing like they were.

A Cat 1 or 2 I’ll hunker down for…anything over that and Lisa has left the building!

Phone service is still up and we’ve been able to text people. Our teenager spent a good part of the night texting friends. Mr. NFL is fidgety and we’re ready for all of this to be completely over.

There was a 90+ year old woman who lived in Galveston and needed to be rescued. I wish someone would have checked in on her and got her out earlier. It was pretty sad. I can see why she didn’t leave. She probably didn’t know any better and had no one to check up on her. How many other elderly people that far in age live alone and don’t have people looking after them. So that I can understand. But they say 40 percent of the people in Galveston ignored the evacuation order. And they did about 250+ rescues last night and ceased around 9 p.m. They weren’t going to put emergency crews lives in danger for folk who willingly took the risk to stay.

I can’t wait to see the news and find out how these folk fared and if they are singing the same tune. It was a scary and bumpy night. I can’t imagine sheltering in place at the storm’s point of entrance.

Did I mention I wanted some coffee? Banana pancakes would be nice too but I digress.

Our neighbor has a huge generator that could power four homes and has offered to let us hook up to it. Yea!

We have been told to conserve water. No breech yet but just as a cautionary measure.

I did read that Louisiana had some levy breeches because of Hurricane Ike which is disastrous for those still trying to recover from Gustav!

Going to see what I can manage for breakfast.

Love you all and thank you for your prayers.

You all are welcome to pray for me anytime. The prayers of righteous folk get things done and for that I’m grateful. We all are.

Much love,

Lisa
