What did you call me?
It was a busy weekend for our family. Football scrimmages and homecoming games then of course church on Sunday. This weekend I’ve never been clearer of who I am and my purpose. I am a mother both naturally and spiritually. Elgin and I have been charged to help those who profess Jesus to mature in their faith. That explains why I’ve been described as a no-nonsense kind of preacher; tough but at the same time, I love just as hard. It all makes sense. I’m a momma. Tonight I have the honor of speaking at Heart to Heart Ministries! I’m excited. Still working on my notes but that’s not unusual for me. Rarely and I do mean rarely do I get word for an event weeks or days in advance. I’ve fought God on this one and I never win so I’ve come to be content with the way He interacts with me. And drum roll please, I finally made my appointment to use my spa gift certificate. A massage, manicure and pedicure await me next week! This morning I woke up and actually felt better than I had all week. GERD has changed how I eat and how I manage stress. So I was glad to feel somewhat normal this morning! I was also glad to hear from a minister in Georgia. She was OK and experienced no flood damage. I’m praying for the families of those who lost loved ones; such heart wrenching stories! We’re all in spiritual after glow after last night’s Bible study! God confirmed His word…again! Right now we’re teaching repentance, the Day of Atonement and a return to holiness. One of the most valuable things I learned in Dr. Hudson’s class was this; good leaders understand that things happen. These leaders understand that things go wrong and accept them as apart of life. The leader who does not, usually responds to the stress negatively which certainly affects ones health. I was the latter and I am consciously putting into practice the former. I’m changing how I perceive things. I’m changing my perspective and outlook. And it works. I have not perfected or mastered this; I take it day-by-day. It’s official; we have an 18 yo daughter. Wow! Sunday after church we went to Dave & Busters with some of her friends. We had a good time. Elgin, Evan and I were ready to sit down, so we called the limo around and went for yogurt. They ate yogurt; I passed! Like my boo said, could really get used to having a limo and a driver! LOL! Pastor Deanna said something that hit home for me. It was something to the effect of talking to a brick wall makes one’s head hurt. I couldn’t agree more.
