It’s Pretty but It Stinks

IMG00382I absolutely enjoy my morning walks. I enjoy being outdoors before it gets too hot and the sights and sounds of nature relax me. But it was the smell of nature that demanded my attention this morning.

There’s a bush/shrub/tall grass that produces a pretty purple flower. That pretty purple flower stinks. Literally. When I walk by them, they give off a strong onion scent that seriously offends my nose.

And I thought, how could something so pretty smell so bad?

Holy Spirit said there are Christians in this same condition. They look real good in all their finery but they stink.

The sin in their lives stinks.

This stench overrides the Mac, the Gucci, the Prada, the Armani, the Tiffany. It’s all very lovely but the stench remains.

You often hear from folk…”Don’t judge me…God knows my heart.” Yep, he sure does and the Word says the heart is deceitfully wicked. I don’t think anything defined as wicked is producing anything that smells good.

We are commanded in Romans 12:1 to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God which is our reasonable sacrifice.

So no matter how well you dress it up, no matter how expensive the label, regardless of the gallons of expensive perfume and cologne used to throw God off the scent trail…it won’t work. The stink remains and this stink repels God; it in no way draws him near.

According to the Bible, the only thing known to remove the stench of sin is the blood of Jesus. Thank goodness His blood has a much better shelf-life than what’s currently sitting in blood banks or we would be in serious trouble!

You don’t have to be repulsive to God. We have the ability to please him. Sin has to be forsaken in order for that to happen. Otherwise you’re all dolled-up and putrid.

The best fragrance you can wear is one that money can’t buy.

First be clean on the inside, then your Mac, your Prada, your Tiffany, your Gucci, your Armani, your Sean John compliments a life that is acceptable to God.

Much love everyone,

PLA
