OPD – Other People’s Drama

Posted by on Sep 4, 2010 | 0 comments

The word of the Lord says that we are to “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2. The verse right above speaks of restoring those overcome with a fault – those overtaken with sin. I champion their case in prayer because I could just as easily be tempted.

Bearing one another’s burdens and entertaining OPD – other people’s drama are not one in the same. There’s a line (sometimes a fine one) between the two but you will know when you’ve crossed over into the drama zone.

OPD will ring your phone late at night with foolishness, won’t heed wise counsel, and often enjoys all the attention the mayhem creates. There just never seems to be an end to the drama and it’s draining.

I bring this up because Pastor Deanna has a post regarding atmosphere. Her coach Kathryn has a plan in place to protect her atmosphere for her own mental well-being. I learned this lesson the hard way but it’s one I learned and continue to implement. My atmosphere is under my domain. I control who and what I entertain and OPD is not welcome. OPD at any level is spiritually and mentally toxic. Extremely high levels of  OPD will render you useless for the Kingdom; it will consume you.

Maintaining my atmosphere is something I take seriously. My spiritual and mental health depend on it. So whether it’s OPD, a TV show, movie, book, or music I guard my atmosphere; not everyone or everything is allowed intimate access.

It’s how I take care of me – it’s how I maintain my sanity and how I keep myself plugged in to the Father so I can hear from Him.

Do what you have to do to protect your atmosphere.

Just say no to OPD.
