Scary Grown Up Stuff

Silver is an incredible woman I met online years ago and I’m certain I’ve mentioned her before on this blog. When Sil has to deal with important matters, she calls it her scary grown up stuff.

Scary grown up stuff can be anything from paying bills, pressing legal matters, investment dealings, or transitioning from being your parent’s child to parenting them. Scary grown up stuff is all the stuff you’d rather not deal with but have to because time has dictated you no are no longer a child. Time says you’re an adult and responsible adults take care of business, i.e. scary grown up stuff.

My confession
There are a couple of scary grown up items that I’ve put off that I have to deal with now and I hate it. How I feel though has no bearing on this situation whatsoever. This has to be done so I suck it up and be about the scary grown up stuff. Hoping and wishing for Jesus’ soon return hasn’t resulted in the rapture of the church so I keep plugging away at the scary grown up stuff since it’s not going away. And it’s amazing what continues to build and grow when you don’t tackle challenges sooner.


Unexpected Results
Amazingly, tackling the scary grown up stuff offers a sense of accomplishment. Now don’t get me wrong. This is hard work and I knew it would be…thus the reason for the delay! But I’m proud of me for progressing in an area that was truly difficult. Every time I grit my teeth and check off an initiative on this monumental to-do list I exhale. I’ve had temporary moments of childish relapse but they’re farther and fewer in between. I’m thinking if I took this on and am still alive to blog about it, I can do anything. The word of God was correct yet again; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Is there some scary grown up stuff you’re putting off?  I hate to be the bearer of bad news but scary grown up stuff accrues interest; it grows. That’s why the pea-sized lump under the carpet is now the size of a Rocky Mountain boulder.

I know you wish it would simply disappear and go away. Trust me I know.

I know you wish Jesus would eradicate it, but He hasn’t. He faced His own scary grown up stuff too.

Scary grown up stuff has to be dealt with; whether it be issues in your marriage, job, business, finances, church or ministry.

Can I pray for you today?

Jesus, I pray for everyone who happens across this post and has some scary grown up stuff they’ve been putting off. I pray they rely on Your strength and come to know you as the LORD GOD who causes them to triumph in every area of their life.

Holy Spirit lead and guide them into all truth, even the truth about the scary grown up stuff. Give them explicit directions on how to handle and then let it all work out for their good  just as the Bible declares.

I pray they experience the peace of God and comfort of Holy Spirit in this difficult time.
