Whaddya mean I’ve been banned?

By February 20, 2012No Comments

The Internet is an amazing place.

You’re literally just one mouse-click, finger swipe away from all kinds of information.

This is the Information Age!

One caveat though; all the information presented online isn’t trustworthy.

Anyone can offer how-to’s but following some of those how-to’s can cost you.

There’s Money to be made on Craigslist!
I remember a potential client asking if I would place ads for their business on Craigslist. Not a problem;  I could place an ad for them but that’s not what they wanted. They wanted their ad to run everyday in multiple locations. Doing this would have been a violation of Craigslist Terms of Use Agreement. But somewhere on the Internet, someone is promoting the idea that you can make tons of money and drive traffic to your site by advertising daily on Craigslist  in multiple locations.

Following this advice will get  you banned from the site. And a word to the wise, don’t employ any company that says they can get around Craigslist agreement. It’s not worth it.

SEO, Pagerank and Backlink Shenanigans
What business owner doesn’t want to rank high in Internet searches? If you do a search on how to better these items, you’ll come across some suggestions that will get you banned from lots of places. One such suggestion was to offer answers on Yahoo’s Answer page. Include your Web address creating a backlink and voila, you’ve just upped your ranking. Again, what they don’t tell you is that Yahoo frowns on this behavior and you can have your account deleted for abusing their system.

Yes, it’s a great time to be alive and have access to so much great content. But beware, some of the content can cost you so choose your resources carefully.
